What exactly is 8-Way Octo Stretch?
HIC's exclusive 8-Way Octo Stretch fabric is engineered to stretch in all eight directions — significantly more flexible than standard 4-way stretch. You'll feel the difference immediately: more range of motion, better fit during activity, and fabric that holds its shape over time.
What's the DWR coating — how waterproof are these?
DWR stands for Durable Water Repellent. It's a factory-applied coating that causes water to bead up and roll off the fabric rather than soaking in. These aren't fully waterproof, but they shed water fast and dry quickly — ideal for surf and swim use.
Why no mesh lining?
Most serious surfers and watermen prefer boardshorts without mesh lining — it reduces chafing, allows better movement, and dries faster. The Kona Tiki's spandex faux gusseted fly gives you full coverage and comfort without the mesh.
How do I care for these?
Machine wash cool, gentle cycle. Line dry. Do not bleach. Rinse with fresh water after saltwater use to protect the DWR coating and preserve the print over time. Avoid the dryer — heat breaks down spandex stretch.
