Men's Classic Hawaiian Paniolo Palaka Plaid Long Sleeve Shirt – Custom Made in Hawaii

The long sleeve Palaka shirt belongs to a specific occasion in Hawaiian culture: the rodeo. Parker Ranch on the Big Island, Makawao on Maui, Molokaʻi Ranch — the great paniolo traditions of Hawaii were not casual affairs, and the men who rode in them dressed accordingly. The long sleeve Palaka shirt was the paniolo's dress shirt — the same authentic plaid as the short sleeve work shirt, but worn tucked and buttoned to the wrist for competition, for celebration, and for the moments that called for something more than everyday. Pineapple Juice custom makes each long sleeve Palaka shirt to order in Hawaii from 100% cotton — which means every shirt is an individual piece, not a rack item. Available in 4 colors: Navy Blue, Dark Green, Royal Blue, and Red. Sizes S–3X.

The Story of Palaka

The Palaka plaid arrived in Hawaii in the mid-1800s as imported work cloth and was adopted by Hawaiian plantation laborers and paniolo (Hawaiian cowboys) as their working and dress uniform. Over generations it became a symbol of Hawaiian identity. The long sleeve Palaka shirt in particular carries the tradition of the paniolo rodeo — worn buttoned and tucked for competition and celebration on the great ranches of Maui, the Big Island, and Molokaʻi.
