Matching outfits are one of the most common reasons families walk into our shop: a trip to Hawaii, a beach wedding, a family photo, a reunion luau. The trick isn't finding one cute print. It's finding one that actually comes in a men's 3X, a women's dress, a girl's size 8 and a 12-month baby set, all at the same time. Here's how to do it without ordering from four different stores.
How do you coordinate a family in Hawaiian outfits?
There are three ways to do it, from most matched to least:
- Same print, same color. Everyone in royal blue Classic Hibiscus. Classic, easy, and unmistakable in a group photo.
- Same print, two colors. Adults in navy, kids in red, for example. Still clearly a set, but it looks less like a uniform and usually photographs better.
- Same print, different cuts. Dad in a shirt, mom in a sarong dress, the girls in tube dresses, the boys in cabana sets. This is what most families end up doing, because everyone gets a cut that suits them.

If dad wears 4X or 5X, start with a cotton print: Classic Hibiscus, Hibiscus Hawaiian Islands and Night Time Surf all go to 5X. If you want rayon's softer drape, Bird of Paradise Display and Paradise Island Surf go to 4X.
What should each person wear?
- Dad: the aloha shirt, untucked, with shorts or chinos. Classic Hibiscus and Night Time Surf also come in matching shorts.
- Mom: the matching camp shirt, or a dress in the same print if you want her to stand out a little.
- Girls: a smocked or tube dress. Smocked tops stretch, which makes sizing easier for growing kids.
- Boys: a cabana set (matching shirt and shorts) for little ones, or a shirt from size 2 up.
- Baby: a 2-piece set from 6 months to 4T.

What should a family wear to a Hawaiian wedding?
Classic Hibiscus also comes in wedding white, the traditional look for a Hawaiian wedding party: a men's wedding white shirt in S to 5X, a boys' wedding white set for ring bearers from 6 months to 7T, and wedding white dresses for flower girls. - Try two colors of one print. It reads as a set without looking like a uniform.
- Steam out the fold lines before the shoot. A handheld steamer is the safest way to smooth both cotton and rayon. Our care guide covers washing and ironing.
